Your adult children deserve attention, too.

Everyone's got one...a family album filled with pictures of cutesy children and babies' bums.

Then, nothing.

Parents will quote squabbling siblings, school stress and adolescent attire. Whatever the reason, most families don't seem to have family photos with their children past 12 (maybe it's the awkward teenager phase...) and suddenly, they're all grown up. They're adults. Now when a new friend asks to see a photo of your family, you can't possibly show them the photo you had taken ten years ago. Nor can you wrangle them back onto the same continent. Darn, you really should've convinced Steven to take that selfie with you and the others before he left for college.

Families evolve over time. And so do you. Adult family photos are an important way to reflect on how your family has changed over time, as a unit and as individuals. That's why I love taking photos of each individual member as well as everyone together - it reflects how family dynamics have changed over time. Maybe you have a new partner. Maybe your kids just refuse to be seen wearing Mickey Mouse and want to be remembered in a more professional light. Maybe they've found partners, too. Any way you slice it, a family photo before the kids leave for college, jobs, spouses etc is something you'll only appreciate more with time.

Not to mention, when families get together behind a camera again after a long break, magic happens. It'll only take one photo into the session to make you appreciate how far everyone's come. No more "look at the camera!"s or "is that a stain on your shirt?" (okay, maybe that one.) Celebrating how your family has matured over time is not only important but fun, too.

Who knows, that first family photo with your adult kids might lead to more down the road, too.
